Connect AI Apps (MCP)
Let Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other AI apps search your saved tabs and save new ones
Connect AI Apps (MCP)
Tabhive supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that lets AI apps such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor use your Tabhive data. Once connected, you can ask your AI app things like "What did I save about Stripe pricing?" or "Save this page to my Research group", and it will look things up in Tabhive for you.
There are two ways to connect:
- Sign in (recommended) - For Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop, and Claude Code), ChatGPT, Codex, and other AI apps that can sign in to MCP servers. There's no token to copy or keep safe, and you can disconnect the app at any time.
- API key - For apps that can't sign in to MCP servers, and for scripts.
Availability
MCP is available on the Pro, Lifetime, and Team plans. It is not available on the Free plan.
Connect Claude by Signing In
- In Claude, go to Customize > Connectors
- Click + Add, then Add custom connector

- Click Allow
The same steps work in other AI apps that support signing in to MCP servers: add https://www.tabhive.app/api/mcp as a server and sign in when asked.
Connect Claude Code by Signing In
Signing in is the recommended way to connect Claude Code.
-
Add Tabhive as an MCP server:
claude mcp add --transport http tabhive https://www.tabhive.app/api/mcpThis adds Tabhive to the current project. Add
--scope userto use it in all your projects. -
Start Claude Code and run
/mcp -
Select tabhive, then choose Authenticate. Your browser opens a Tabhive sign-in page.
-
Sign in to your Tabhive account
-
Review what Claude Code is asking for. Untick Save new tabs to your groups if you only want it to search your tabs.
-
Click Allow, then go back to Claude Code. Tabhive is now connected.
Connect ChatGPT by Signing In
ChatGPT on the Web
- Go to chatgpt.com/plugins
- Click +, then Add custom MCP server
- Enter
Tabhiveas the name and a short description, such asSearch and save my Tabhive tabs - Under Connection, enter
https://www.tabhive.app/api/mcpas the server URL - Set authentication to OAuth, review the warning, and click I understand and want to continue
- Click Create as a plugin
- When ChatGPT asks you to sign in, sign in to your Tabhive account, review what ChatGPT is asking for, and click Allow. Untick Save new tabs to your groups if you only want ChatGPT to search your tabs.
- In a new chat, type

ChatGPT Desktop App
- Open Settings > MCP servers > Add server
- Enter
Tabhiveas the name and choose Streamable HTTP - Enter
https://www.tabhive.app/api/mcpas the URL and save. Restart the app if asked. - When asked to authenticate, sign in to your Tabhive account, review what ChatGPT is asking for, and click Allow
- In a chat, type
/mcpto check that Tabhive is connected
If you don't see these options, your ChatGPT plan or workspace may not allow custom MCP servers. Check with your workspace admin or OpenAI's help center.
Connect Codex by Signing In
-
Add Tabhive as an MCP server:
codex mcp add tabhive --url https://www.tabhive.app/api/mcp -
Sign in:
codex mcp login tabhiveYour browser opens a Tabhive sign-in page.
-
Sign in to your Tabhive account, review what Codex is asking for, and click Allow
-
Run
codex mcp listto check the connection. Tabhive should no longer show Not logged in.
The Codex IDE extension uses the same settings as the Codex CLI, so Tabhive is available there too.
Connect With an API Key
Create an API Key
- Open Tabhive settings
- Navigate to the API tab
- Open API Keys and enter a name for the key, such as
Claude CodeorCursor - Click Create key
- Copy the key (it starts with
thb_)
The key is shown only once. Copy it before clicking Done or closing settings. If you lose it, revoke it and create a new one.
Treat the key like a password. Anyone who has it can read and save tabs through MCP, subject to their workspace access.
All apps use the server address https://www.tabhive.app/api/mcp. Send the key in the X-API-Key header, or as Authorization: Bearer <key> in apps that support it.
Claude Code
We recommend signing in instead. Use an API key if you run Claude Code somewhere you can't sign in from a browser, such as a remote server.
After creating an API key, run this command yourself, replacing thb_... with your key:
claude mcp add --transport http tabhive https://www.tabhive.app/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer thb_..."Cursor
Add Tabhive to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json (one project):
{
"mcpServers": {
"tabhive": {
"url": "https://www.tabhive.app/api/mcp",
"headers": {
"X-API-Key": "thb_..."
}
}
}
}Other AI Apps
Any app that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP can connect with an API key. Use the server address above and send your key in the X-API-Key header.
What Your AI App Can Do
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Search tabs | Finds saved tabs by keywords or topic, by when you saved them, or both. Matches titles, URLs, notes, and page descriptions |
| List spaces | Lists your spaces with their number of groups |
| List groups | Lists your groups with their space and number of tabs |
| List tabs | Lists saved tabs, either all tabs or the tabs in one group |
| List workspaces | Lists your workspaces and shows which one is your default |
| Save a tab | Saves a web page to a group, with an optional title and note. Missing titles and descriptions are filled in from the page. If the page is already saved in that workspace, it isn't saved again, and your AI app tells you which group it's in |
You don't need to call these actions by name. Ask in plain language and your AI app picks the right one.
Example Requests
- "What have I saved about onboarding?"
- "What did I save last week?"
- "Show me the pricing pages I saved in September"
- "Which groups do I have, and what's in my Research group?"
- "Search my Team workspace for design system links"
- "Save https://linear.app/method to my Reading List group with the note 'read this weekend'"
Workspaces
Your AI app uses your default workspace unless you name another one. To use a different workspace, mention it in your request, for example "search my Team workspace". Your AI app can only see workspaces you are a member of.
To save tabs in a shared workspace, you need Editor or Owner access to that workspace.
What It Can't Do
Your AI app can't edit or delete tabs, groups, or spaces, create groups or spaces, or change your settings. Saving a tab requires a group that already exists.
Managing Access
MCP connection instructions are under Connect AI apps (MCP) in the AI tab. API keys are created and managed under API → API Keys.
Connected Apps
Apps you connected by signing in are listed under Connected apps, with their OAuth access and the date you connected them.
- Disconnect an app - Click Disconnect. The app stops working immediately. To use it again, connect it and sign in again.
- Change what an app can do - Disconnect it, then connect it again and choose its access on the sign-in screen.
API Keys
Keys are listed under API Keys with their creation date.
- Revoke a key - Click Revoke next to the key. Any AI app using it stops working immediately. Deleting your account also disconnects all apps and deletes all of your API keys.
Each app or API key can make up to 120 requests per minute.
Privacy
When your AI app uses Tabhive, the results it receives, such as tab titles, URLs, notes, and group names, are sent to your AI app and its AI provider so it can answer you. Only connect apps you trust, and disconnect apps or revoke API keys you no longer use.
Tabhive stores only a secure hash of each API key, never the key itself.
Troubleshooting
"Missing or invalid API key"
- Check that the header is named
X-API-Keyand the value is your full key, starting withthb_ - Make sure the key hasn't been revoked
- If you've lost the key, create a new one
"Tabhive MCP requires a paid plan"
MCP is available on the Pro, Lifetime, and Team plans. Connected apps and API keys stop working if your plan changes to Free.
"Saving tabs needs editor access to this workspace"
You have view-only access to that workspace. Ask the workspace owner for Editor access, or save the tab to a workspace you can edit.
"This app can only read your tabs"
When you connected the app, Save new tabs to your groups was unticked. Disconnect the app in the AI tab, then connect it again and leave that option ticked.
"This app was disconnected from Tabhive"
The app was disconnected in Tabhive settings. Connect it again and sign in.
"Rate limit exceeded"
The app or API key made more than 120 requests in a minute. Wait a minute and try again.
